Stamping With Konad And Bundle Monster

Today's post is brought to you by the letter "S" as in Super Spazzy. Last night while hubby was making dinner I went through my plates and had this really great idea to do images with sort of dreams themes. I tend to dream in color, but lots of color and lots of "random" images might be a bit much so I figured it would work well enough in black and white. Then... *sigh*... after dinner I got totally lazy and had forgotten most of the images I wanted to use and decided on this sort of basket weave pattern:

I wasn't even going to post this today (instead adding it to the bottom of tomorrow's post), but the lovely Joyce from What's on my nails today? is back and wanted to see it. Go show her some love!

Anyway, I used Bundle Monster plate BM-606 and the image was big enough for every nail except my thumb. *ggrrr*

I also, obviously, used the Konad Special White polish for the stamping.

Back when stamping was first gaining steam I wondered if the Konad "special" polish was really special at all. I mean, chromes and opaque regular polish work, so what's the deal? Well, if you haven't tried it yet the Konad polish is... different. Of course it's super opaque (at least the white is), but there's something else. I touched on it before, but I totally borked a couple of nails and was able to just scrape the Konad polish off. That is exceptionally handy for a Super Spaz like me. The other thing is a bit weird, because I would say that it holds up better to topcoating. It really looks like it in real life, but when I went to take a picture of my "best nail":

That happened. ??? Uhm... even though my iPhone swears it streaked my eyeballs are claiming otherwise. lol So we'll go with: "the Konad polish has minimal streaking issues when faced with topcoat". Also, I did have issues with it building up on my scraper and this happened:

So, yeah, make sure you clean that sucker off. I think most of my stamping related issues are due to learning how to use this new polish. You really have to clean off the plate between each use. I was confused as to why some of the images were lighter or kinda wonky until I took the picture of the plate and noticed definite residue in the design. Go ahead and scroll back up. I'll wait.... *whistles the theme song to Bonanza* Did you see it there in the bottom-left corner? Yep. If it builds up on the scraper, it's gonna build up in the nooks and crannies of the plate, too. Lesson learned!

While this is a passable stamping, I think know I can do way better for the black and white theme; so I'm not counting this one. No "ka-chick" today.

Two more days until the Sims 4 Get To Work expansion comes out. Time to go finish up as many of the current achievements as I can before they load me down with even more. lol Hope everyone's having a great weekend! (^_^)"/"

Finger Paints: Hey Mr DJ!

I feel like I'm going to have that Madonna song stuck in my head all day thanks to this polish. lol Ah... 2006. On the verge of a comeback before she completely lost it. Madonna... smh... *ahem* Hey Mr DJ! the polish is a buildable sheer black base with red, blue and silver glitters:

This is three mediumish coats that dried fairly quickly in spite of their thickness. Sorry about the errant sparklies all over my fingers.

There you have it.

Haven't yet decided which stamping image I'm going to use. I had an idea in my head, but I didn't realize there was going to be so much glitter in Hey Mr DJ!. lol This still counts for Black & White, right? I guess I'll see how distracting the red and blue glitters are tomorrow. In other news, I was going to order the Konad special black and instead decided to finally get the pink China Glaze crackle. I believe it's the last China Glaze crackle that I need. (yes, using "need" loosely lol) So... yeah... stamping tomorrow and then essence Enchanted By Hint Of Mint to follow. Hope everyone is having a terrific weekend! (^_^)"/"

Color Club: Bell Bottom Babe

Here we go! The Babe of the ball. lol Two coats of Bell Bottom Babe over white:

Look at that shimmer! The blue is gorgeous by itself as well:

You can kind of see where the white undies end so I think this "three for opacity" may be dependent upon how much sheerness you're willing to forgive. Or what kind of lighting you find yourself in.

Okay, at the very least I should have a swatch for Finger Paints Hey Mr DJ! tomorrow. That's going to be the base for my #SBBNailChallenge. *spoiler alert* lol Aaron just left to hang out with his friends so... I'm going to play Minecraft. hehehe Hope everybody has an amazing weekend! (^_^)"/"

Essence: My Sweet Escape

Just a quick post today because I know as soon as I tell Aaron that Sims updated he's going to want to play around with the basements. lol

Today I have two coats (should have used three) of essence My Sweet Escape which is supposed to be a thermal color-changing polish, but the effect on this one is very subtle.

A factor which was not helped by our lack of running water when I went to take pictures. -_- Fortunately I had just refilled the water bowl for the strays.

Yeah, I can't tell much difference. lol I did catch this one inside while I was doing my makeup:

*shrugs* Regardless it is a nice neutral polish. And a quick hair shot to round things out:

I'll be back tomorrow with Bell Bottom Babe. Debating over whether or not to swatch over white. I've seen "three coats for opacity" on blogs but my sheerness test is telling me otherwise... *shrugs* We'll see. lol Hope everyone's having a great week! (^_^)"/"

#SBBNailChallange - 28 - New Technique

Hello, dolls! Today is another "iffy" #SBBNailChallenge... I mean, I did it, but the effect is really hard to see! I went for 28 - new (to me) technique and tried to do the layered "jelly sandwich" type stamping with Bubblegum and the Konad Special White...

Just that the one time I need a polish to be super sheer... it really isn't.

I used these plates... I believe they're both from Born Pretty Store, no idea if either is still available. Anyway, I had yesterday's swatch-mani, stamped a single flower on each nail, layer of polish, single flower, layer of polish, single flower and Hello Kittys on my accent nails, finished off with a final layer of Bubblegum and topcoat because ZOMG that's a lot of polish.

Can you see three flowers? I can't... Still, two visible and one hidden isn't bad for a first attempt, right?

Ka-chick! Also, sorry about my dirty fingers. XD I had to mow the lawn and replace the blinker bulb in my mom's van. *oops*

Also! I had to get this picture because I keep being impressed with the Konad stamping polish. Even with other polishes that work for stamping, it never comes out this crisp!

Another thing I've noticed about the Konad stamping polishes is that I can pick it right off if (*ahem* when) I screw up! O_O For the white, at least. I'm going to have to get more. Ya know, for the science. ;) Thank goodness for mPoints and amazon gift cards. lol

Okay, so assuming all goes well I'll have essence color-changing My Sweet Escape for tomorrow followed by Color Club Bell Bottom Babe since everybody (myself included) is so excited to see that one. Then, if I don't forget, I'm going to really put the Konad Special White to the test for the Black & White #SBBNailChallenge prompt. Since that's why I got it in the first place. lol Hope everyone's having a great week. Y'all take care out there!! (^_^)"/"

Models Own: Bubblegum +Hair +Nail Mail

I'm here! Just... you know how it is. Stupid real life always interfering. ...that doesn't look right....? *runs to google* Yeah, "interfering". Learn something new every day. *ahem* Anyway, I'm here now with another super gorgeous Models Own. Bubblegum! Out in the sun:

I ended up in a bit of a rush yesterday morning so this is only one coat of Bubblegum over white. The camera, apparently, is not as forgiving as the eyes because it does not look this mismatched in real life. Out in the shade:

Bubblegum is one of the most amazing bright neon pinks I've ever seen. I feel like I say that a lot... lol Neon pink is the best kind of pink! Indoors with flash:

So much love.

Hair time! I went by Walgreens and, naturally, navigated through the nail polish (nothing new at that location) towards the hair aisle. MASSIVE SALE! Okay, not terribly "massive" (I like 50% off, personally), but $2 off (with card) isn't too bad either.

Grabbed two boxes of my now-standard purple and this other thing I haven't seen before. I sometimes get questions about how I get my color to last so long (let the color soak in as long as possible; wet wash once a week and dry-shampoo between), and I'm wondering how much Splat's new fade-resist formulas will help. If at all. It'll be an interesting experiment.

Also got two of my three recent amazon purchases:

Bell Bottom Babe and Sand Texture Black I. There is a Black II that I may or may not get.

Time to take my chance and jump on Minecraft. lol Thinking of doing another #SBBNailChallenge so we'll see how that works out. Y'all take care out there! (^_^)"/"

Essence: On The Road Again & Julep: Queen Anne +Wedding

Yes! We made it and we're alive. My neck hurts from all of the recent driving, but that will ease up soon enough. First! Starting with the polish. Decided to go a little subdued with essence On The Road Again. Also the name is very appropriate. lol

Two coats of On The Road Again over Zoya Farah which I think may have absorbed some of the texture which was more prominent on my swatch test. Going to have to line this up for a re-do at some point.

Even with the gold sparkles I thought On The Road Again would make a nice neutral base for Julep's Queen Anne.

Pretty purpley glitter that could be full coverage with more coats. It does sparkle!

Just that we haven't been getting much sun. :p

Wedding! I will say after all of the lead-up we had concerns, but it was a nice ceremony. Not too serious. They didn't turn into completely different people like we've seen with some couples. The part that really warmed my heart was how much time the groom made for Aaron. They've been friends for so long, but distance makes it difficult to spend time together.

The reception was nice, too and everybody was super friendly. I felt all weird in a dress, but at least I didn't spaz out and spill anything on myself. lol

A fun night overall and I wish Scott and Sarah all the happiness in the world.

That's it for me. Time to grab dinner. Got Models Own Bubblegum lined up for tomorrow followed by the color changing essence My Sweet Escape. Lots of fun stuff. Hope everyone's having a great weekend! (^_^)"/"

Models Own: Chrome Blue

Got my hair straightened. Still debating over whether or not I want to curl it. While I do that I have time for a quick post before I throw some makeup at my face. lol

Two coats of Models Own Chrome Blue over the Orly Bonder basecoat. I dropped my ridge filler and haven't figured out where it landed yet and you really can see a difference:

It doesn't look horrible, but you can see the ridges. Fortunately it's such a pretty pretty chrome that a little ridginess is forgivable. Or you could just not lose your ridge filler basecoat. That's always an option. :p

Aaaannnnndddd.... that's it. Any more procrastinating and I'll end up half-dressed. Hope everyone's having a great weekend. See you tomorrow! (^_^)"/"

KleanColor: Sugar Cravings & Maybelline: Diamon In The Rough +Nail Mail

That's a mouthful. lol Today I have two flakie toppers to share. They looked very similar when I did a quick swatch test, that is why I'm showing them together; both layered over Wet n Wild Black Creme.

Starting with one coat of KleanColor's Sugar Cravings:

I think the fine folks at KleanColor were trying to cover their asses with the "textured 3D" label. I did have a couple of the flakies poke up through my topcoat, but nothing dire. I've seen far worse- Lookin' at you, Green Ocean.

Maybelline's Diamond In The Rough is similar to Sugar Cravings, but a bit lighter and I don't recall any of the flakies poking up.

Funny, indoors I thought these would be identical, but once I got the bottles outside there are noticeable differences:

On the nail they do look somewhat similar:

Sugar Cravings, on my index finger, leans more red-orange while Diamond In The Rough, on my thumb, is a lighter orange with some greens.

What's got two thumbs and is super psyched about the swap package she received last night? This girl!

Another amazing goodie bag from the fabulous gin shivers. *squee* Perfect timing, too, because I'll be wearing one of those essences to the wedding tomorrow. ^_^

Oh my goodness, this month... I don't know if I'll have time to post tomorrow, but I will try to get a shot of my outfit for posting. I turned in a ton of mPoints for amazon gift cards and ordered three polishes last night. A Nabi texture and two of the Color Club neons. I keep trying to tell myself to get something not nail related, but... it keeps coming back to polish. lol Hope everybody has a safe and fantastic weekend! (^_^)"/"

Julep: Becky +Comparison

Howdy howdy howdy! Today I have a fun little comparison for you, but first: swatches! When I first saw Becky online for the box picks I was super excited! Then I saw her in person and was a bit let down... She looks kind of dark and grainy compared to my other "oil slick" polishes. Once I applied her, though, I totally got it!

Since swirly polish (as you would see in an actual oil slick) is (so far) only obtainable through marbling, Julep used a different way to get all of the colors to show up at once. Becky is opaque in two coats and does dry semi-matte. I used a topcoat so I could go to bed. lol

Isn't that pretty?! Still a little dark, but I guess that makes sense.

For the comparison I have three polishes that claim to reflect the "oil slick" effect:

Julep Becky, Butter London Petrol and essence Power Girl. So how do they stack up against each other?

Becky is definitely the odd man out, but also gives you the most colors at once without having to move your fingers around. Power Girl is the most opaque, as Petrol is a sheer topper that makes it more versatile.

That's one coat of each. It's hard for me to make a recommendation here considering price, availability and the fact that they're all pretty unique. For Mavens I would totally recommend grabbing Becky if she ever shows up as an add-on or on sale. Unless she just doesn't appeal to you, of course.

Tomorrow I have a twofer and another comparison, followed by another chrome. Truckin' right along. lol I've seen a few people got a ton of snow dumped on them recently. We're still mostly wet and grey here in Texas. Hope everyone is staying safe and warm, wherever you are! (^_^)"/"

Paddy's Day Mani

Hey, guys! I know I'm sucking at keeping up with everyone else's blogs. Spent yesterday at the in-laws and got a wedding coming up, but I will try to do better! Promise.

So here's my mani from yesterday:

I started with two coats of A England St George which didn't get to really sparkle due to it being all overcast again. I stamped some larger clovers with Pure Ice The Secret Is Out!, then the faeries and smaller clovers with Models Own Chrome Gold. Now... the sad part... the stupid cable was glitching out during Walking Dead and when I tried to fix it... this happened...

*cries* I'm slowly working on filing down the rest of my nails to try and make things a little more even. Moving on... here's my thumb where you can see the green clovers a bit better:

Since it was a holiday and we found out kind of last minute that we were going out, I didn't really have time to do my hair. So: Wig to the rescue!

Yep, even went grocery shopping like that. lol

Alexis did her nails, too!

And that is that. I've got two comparisons coming up. First the oil slicks, then some flakies. Then back to the chromes with Chrome Blue. Time to get my butt back to work. Y'all take care out there! (^_^)"/"

Family Time

It may seem odd to some, but growing up in a military family I spent almost no time at all with my extended family. They were more of an abstract concept than a "hey! family!" thing. That said, I didn't even know my cousin Alexis even existed until we met on facebook through other family members. Hey! We're cousins! Cool! We hit it off pretty quickly and it was great getting to meet her for the first time. It's crazy how much we have in common, having not grown up together. Of course, since she had never been to Texas we had to hit all of the "good" stuff in the short time she had.

Starting with Dallas! Since that's where we picked her (and her boyfriend) up from.

We started off with the essential "JFK was shot here" stuff. This time I got a shot of the X that "marks the spot".

Not too far from that was the Anne & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum which is currently housing a (free to get into) Samurai exhibit. They had a lot of armor, weapons, paintings and sculptures. My favorite was the Samurai fireman helmet! I didn't know such a thing existed.

On the way back we had to stop at the big ol' gas station in Italy. Sadly, the land that the Pegasus sits on is being sold. :(

We had a bit of time after getting here so we stopped by Chalk Ridge Falls for a quick walk-around.

There's a lot more open since the last time we were there.

Up next: Austin! Of course we didn't realize it was the week before SXSW so it was crazy crowded. Still, we made it to Museum Of The Weird again where they had some new displays! Mostly wax figures:

We were also treated to a different sideshow performance; this one by Juan Martinez who also gave us a bit of history about the place.

While there we also got to see the Minnesota Iceman which is currently on display there. Sadly, no pictures allowed, but he's totally worth going to see for yourself.

Of course, no trip to Austin would be complete without my personal favorite: Jones Center (formerly Arthouse). This time they had a Tom Sachs collection called "Boombox Retrospective" which I loved!

Especially this pleasant surprise:

Yeah, jumbo My Melody stopped me dead in my tracks. hehehe That also led nicely into our frist trip to Leguna Gloria and this adorable crying bunny fountain:

Thursday was mostly in-town shopping. Everyone was exhausted from two big city days. Then Friday it was back up to Dallas for their return flight. On the way we swung by The Catfish Plantation:

Which is smaller than I expected, but supposed to be very haunted. So is White Rock Lake:

We didn't see any ghosts, though. Not even when we made a quick stop to see the grave of Bonnie Parker (as in Bonnie & Clyde):

Fortunately Lady Luck and road karma were on our side and we made it to the airport with time to spare.

Aaron caught that beautiful sunset just outside of Waxahachie on our way home.

I know it doesn't seem like much all condensed like that. lol If you want to see all of the pictures (I do recommend it, especially for the Samurai, Boombox and sculpture garden exhibits) then check out my full album here. It's public so you don't have to friend me or anything. Also check out Juan's juggling sword swallow that photobucket would not let me upload.

Tomorrow I'll have my Paddy's Day mani, which I'm pretty proud of. Thursday is Becky and the oil slick comparisons. Still on schedule for the moment. Hope everyone is having a great week so far. Be safe out there. (^_^)"/"
